FREE HONKIN’
Dealing with a Goose in the morning at 6:40 a.m.!
On the lake
there is a slight quake
that wakes us up at dawn.
It’s an Egyptian Goose
who honks like a moose in heat
at daybreak.
He is loud
and he is proud.
Flying around
FREE, well, as a bird.
No one chases him away.
He is too quick and high.
Walking along the roofs.
There are two
but the male
is the one who
commands the sky.
The female only follows.
Her call is like a swallow
low and smooth.
Her call is indescribable;
a raspy, quiet sound.
So much nicer and
easier on the ear
and on the nerves for all.
The male goes from one area
to another
waking all
and he is not small.
I assume he has a job to do
waking all the humans.
