No Benches

Not enough seats around the lakes

--

There aren’t enough places to sit
when viewing the many lakes.
At least the three that are near me.
I wonder why?

Such beauty and tranquility.
Ducks swimming along to their song.
Birds fishing and flying.
Not many bugs, taking mugs
to leisurely sip.

I’m lucky to get the chance
to see such beauty at a glance.
To watch new babies waddle,
Mom’s nudging them not to dawdle
their first day to hunt and squabble.

Toddlers running at top speed,
Mom’s keeping up, indeed.
Squawking, “Slow down, be careful”
to her breed of rash babies,
running again at top speed.

And then there is the subject of “Duck Sex.”
Male ducks are brutal to my eye.
They jump on the females back, hold them under,
you think they will drown.
They come back up soon, then it’s over.

There is nothing to swoon about.
They both clean their feathers,
then the male says, “Once more.”
He chases her again, she runs and hollers,
and flies away
to go on with her day.

Sort of funny, but it’s not
how he tries to take one more shot.
Poor guy, too bad, so sad.

This is what you can watch
what you can see
when their are more benches
so much excitement and comedy, believe me!
