Through the Lens of Corporate Bull Hockey

When I was younger I worked for a particular company that couldn’t deal with a mistake. Mistakes can always be corrected, but it got a point that even correcting a mistake was not tolerated. You were always on the verge of being fired or getting a negative review which would affect your salary.

I worked there for ten years as an office manager. No one trained me and after a bit I found that I had to train myself to survive. Life there was going fine and tolerable, but over the years the company went from six offices down to three.

Not much was commented about it only announced at meetings. Over a six or seven year period three offices had closed. I was not on the inside so I did not know why this was going on.

I took care of the day-to-day needs of an office of thirteen to sixteen individuals that needed attention so most of my attention was dealing with that and not with the corporate hierarchy.

My immediate boss was good with getting raises and bonuses for me because all the office tasks and dealing with daily problems were taken off him so he did not have to deal with it. He was able to get more of his work done.

Even though, he did this for me he verbally abused me daily, weekly, and monthly because of mistakes. It got to the point that I decided to keep up with the…
